FATORDA: A brace each from Suraj Hadkonkar and Franzil Negredo helped SCC Cavelossim score a resounding 5-1 win over Vasco SC in the Goa Sevens Premier League match played at SAG ground, Fatorda, on Tuesday.
Rayman Fernandes scored the other goal for the winners while Sunny Fernandes netted the consolation for the Port Towners.
SCC Cavelossim totally dominated the match which saw them outplay their opponents in the fast paced match.
The young SCC Cavelossim fielded a young squad with former Sesa graduate Ozen Silva in the goal supported by Franzil Negredo and Rayman Fernandes in midfield with Aaren Silva in upfront.
While for Vasco SC, Eban Misquita started with Prabhakar Kattimani in goal with Terence Lobo, Sherwin Lobo in the starting seven led by Princeton Rebello.
Cavelossim didn’t take long to settle into the match as they had the first crack at the rival goal in the in the second minute when Aaren fed Franzil from the left but the latter’s header was brilliantly saved by alert Vasco keeper Kattimani.
In the very next attack, Cavelossim scored through Suraj with a sublime finish.
Down by a goal, Vasco SC tried to get back into the game and opted to have ball possession and had their first shot at the rival goal in the 10th minute when Sherwin Lobo was set free upfront, but Cavelossim keeper Ozen Silva denied with a stunning save to keep his team’s lead intact.
In the 14th minute, Cavelossim doubled their lead through Franzil who headed past helpless Vasco SC keeper.
Had it not for the Vasco SC keeper Kattimani’s brilliance in the goal the score line would have read differently. The Vasco custodian was in thick of action as he denied Aaren, Bersal and Rayman.
At the other end, Vasco pulled a goal back when Terrence Lobo found Sunny in the box, and the latter headed into the Cavelossim nets.
Just as it seemed Vasco would draw level, Franzil completed his brace and team’s third in the 24th minute to send his team into breather with a two-goal cushion.
Crossing ends, Vasco SC started brightly but soon found themselves on the back foot and almost conceded the fourth goal if not for Princeton’s goal line clearance to deny Aaren Silva in the 35th minute.
Vasco SC coach Eban Misquita made two changes bringing on Hayson Velho and Lalbabu Mahto in place of Princeton and Terrence respectively, but the duo failed to influence their team.
Cavelossim dominated the final quarter of the match and scored the team’s fourth through Suraj in the 49th minute.
Aaren Silva set up Suraj infront of the goal and the latter rounded off the keeper to complete his brace.
Rayan Fernandes scored Cavelossim’s fifth goal deep into the injury time in one-on situation. The former Vasco SC player showed his composure as he coolly finished past Vasco’s Kattimani.
SCC Cavelossim’s Franzil Negredo won the Man-of-the-Match award.
